The corroded coloration of the works is a reaction to the tarnishing agents, used as paints, against the brass, bronze, and copper metal sheet grounds.

For the cover of the exhibition catalogue, we featured Metropolitan Escape (Borealis) with its brilliant patinas on brass and for the Art in America ad, Intersection (Copperhead) with Rauschenberg's signature prominently superimposed.

Both works absorb and reflect light in a peculiarly beautiful way and make for very compelling exhibition promotions.
